The C-Grade Grand Final Kings Speech for 2014 proudly sponsored by The Pembroke Kings is now available at the Pembroke Kings website –
www.pembrokekings.com.auA weekend which appeared to show so much promise ended in disappointment for the A and B grade. The Kings headed north east to the formidable home of the Modbury Hawks. Both teams had successfully beaten every other in the comp during the regular season accept the Hawks. This was always going to be a tough assignment.
The B Grade started exceptionally well leading at quarter time and taking a 5 point lead into the main change. It was shaping to be one of the best wins of the year. Modbury gathered some composure at half time and played tough contested football in the second half putting 3 goals on the Kings. The lads had their opportunities in the 4th quarter but where unable to regain the lead going down by 14 points.
The A grade came out of the blocks firing kicking the first couple of majors. The exciting start came to a halt as Modbury flew back into the game kicking 5 majors. With a hard fast paced game the Hawks managed to keep this lead for the next couple of changes and lead by 5 goals at ¾ time. The Kings playing two men down (Hill-Ling shoulder and Josh Starke knee) where unable to keep pace with the Hawks who ran out 10 goal winners.
The season ended abruptly but it was a massive effort from both sides especially with the A grade winning 10 in a row to make the preliminary final. We thank all the supporters for making the trek out to Modbury and cheering the Kings on.
